BMC Bulk Molding Compound

Alita BMC (DMC) is an OEM bulk molding compound for injection and compression. We do not stock catalog grades. Flow, flame rating, electrical properties and color are set to your part — encapsulated motors, insulation components, reflectors — then locked after sample approval.

WHAT IS BMC

A dough compound, not a smaller SMC sheet

BMC (Bulk Molding Compound, also called DMC) premixes unsaturated polyester resin, chopped glass, fillers, stabilizers and pigments into a handleable dough. Versus SMC sheet, BMC uses shorter fiber and flows farther — the right choice for complex cavities, insert encapsulation and injection molding, especially encapsulated motors and precision electrical parts.

  • Ready for the pressResin, fiber and additives are already mixed and matured in-house. Downstream only injects or compresses inside the process window.
  • Formulated for the part, not a SKU listEach batch is written to the target flow, shrink, flame and electrical window — not picked as the nearest catalog grade.
  • Color can follow a chipNatural, black, red, orange, green and brown are production colors. RAL / Pantone matching is available after a sample lock.

COMPOUND ADVANTAGE

What the dough is built to do

Long working window

Stabilizer systems keep the dough plastic inside the storage window and limit viscosity drift.

Easy handling, high flow

Chopped fiber and filler ratios are set to the cavity — thin walls, inserts and complex ribs.

Strength, insulation, flame

Glass-reinforced UPR matrix, UL94 V-0 capable, with electrical strength held in the same formula.

Low shrink, high yield

Shrinkage is tuned to the dimensional tolerance window to cut flash and secondary work.

Surface gloss on demand

From functional matte to appearance gloss, adjusted with the tool and the paste system.

COLOR MATCHING

Color-matched compound

Production colors shot in-house. Final shade shifts slightly with resin, filler and flame package — color is locked after the sample.

Orange

Blue and yellow shown in the group photo can be made as well. Send a chip, a part, or a RAL/Pantone number and we lock color by batch.

OEM WINDOW

This is not a single catalog grade. It is the envelope Alita can lock to a part. Fill only the properties that matter in the form below; the rest is recommended from the application and written into the datasheet after sampling.

DOWNSTREAM PARTS

Typical downstream parts

BMC is used where insulation, flame performance, dimensional stability and complex cavities coincide. Alita can compound the dough and mold the part, from material sample to first-off.

HANDLING

Handling, packing and storage

BMC is a reactive semi-finished compound. How it is handled and stored decides flow on the machine and surface on the part.

Sealed and cool

Store sealed below 18°C, dry and away from sunlight. Reseal the PE/nylon bag after every take-out to limit moisture and volatiles.

Keep it clean

Avoid skin and eye contact. Keep gloves clean so dust and oil never enter the dough.

Run inside the window

Temperature, pressure and cure must follow wall thickness and the tool. The numbers below are a starting point, not a frozen grade.

CUSTOM BMC TDS

Submit a custom BMC specification

Write the part you are actually molding. You do not need every cell — application, process and contact are required. Blank properties mean we recommend from the use case and lock them after sampling.

01 Contact
02 Part and process
03 Target properties (optional)

Fill only the properties that actually gate the part. Blank cells will be recommended from the application and locked in the sample report.
